Get started on iPhone and iPad

Create your own VPN server with Warrenet™ and connect your iPhone or iPad to it. There’s no command line and no configuration file.

Before you begin

You need:

  • an iPhone or iPad with iOS 17 or later
  • an account with DigitalOcean, Akamai, or Vultr (you can create one from the app)
  • a Warrenet subscription, which you need to create a server and to connect

Your cloud provider bills you separately for your server, from the moment it exists until you delete it. Warrenet shows the monthly price before you deploy.

These steps show an iPhone. The iPad app has the same tabs and the same steps.

Step 1: Connect your cloud account

  1. Open Warrenet and tap the Cloud tab.

  2. Choose your provider under Provider.

  3. Tap Connect with your provider’s name, for example Connect DigitalOcean.

The Cloud tab with DigitalOcean selected and the Connect DigitalOcean button.
  4. Sign in on your provider’s page and approve access. Warrenet never sees your password.

No account yet? Tap Create an account to open your provider’s sign-up page. Some of these are referral links; the info button beside it explains what that means.

If Vultr opens its dashboard instead of returning to Warrenet, close the sign-in window and tap Continue after sign-in.

Step 2: Subscribe

You can’t deploy a server until you subscribe.

  1. Tap the Settings tab, then tap Subscription.
  2. Choose a plan and tap Subscribe.

The App Store handles the payment. See Your subscription for details.

Step 3: Create your server

  1. Tap the Cloud tab.

  2. Choose a Region. A region close to you is usually faster.

  3. Choose a Server size. Each size shows its monthly price and included data transfer. Pricing details explains what your provider charges for.

  4. The text field below your cloud account holds your server’s name. Change it if you want to.

  5. Tap Deploy VPN Server.

The Cloud tab connected to a DigitalOcean account, with a region and size chosen.

Warrenet creates and sets up the server, and shows its progress in Cloud. This usually takes a few minutes. If Warrenet closes while it works, it picks up the setup when you open the app again, as long as you’re still signed in to your provider. If Cloud shows Check Status or Retry instead, tap it.

When the server is ready, it appears under Device Managed Servers with VPN: Reachable, and it’s added to the VPN tab.

Step 4: Connect

  1. Tap the VPN tab. Your server is listed under Servers and already selected.

  2. Tap Connect.

The VPN tab with one server selected and the Connect button.
  3. The first time you connect, your device asks to add a VPN configuration. Tap Allow, then enter your passcode or use Face ID or Touch ID.

The status under VPN changes to Connected. The VPN stays on when you switch to another app, but swiping Warrenet away in the app switcher can turn it off. If that happens, open Warrenet and connect again. To stop using the VPN, tap Disconnect.
